MVYouth was founded by forty-six Vineyard families in 2014 to support Island children, teens and young adults. We now have seventy Founding donors. Funds benefit local organizations working with Island youth, and provide scholarships to high school seniors. MVYouth provides an alternative to traditional capital campaign fundraising by organizing donors around a shared mission and pooling donations to multiply the impact of each gift. MVYouth will disperse $1 million+ annually through three programs - Expansion Grants, College Scholarships and Workforce Development Scholarships.
Expansion Grants support organizations that enrich the lives of young people (birth to 25 years old) on Martha's Vineyard through quality programs and services. Grants generally will not be awarded to sustain operating budgets, but will instead support capital investments and program expansions. Much like a financial manager chooses investments to maximize profit, MVYouth makes grant decisions to maximize impact. MVYouth has been careful not to disrupt existing donor contributions that sustain the many Island non-profits. Instead, MVYouth will add capital to organizations ready to take quantum leaps forward.
Approximately thirty percent of MVYouth’s funds are devoted to Scholarships. College Scholarships support students who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, character and service and have a financial need preventing them from attending their school of choice. Workforce Development Scholarships support students pursuing careers in healthcare and the trades who need financial support to complete necessary coursework or certification in order to be employable.
Founding donors make annual donations of $25,000, pledging support for a minimum of four years. In addition, Founders have agreed to underwrite all of the administrative and fundraising expenses, allowing MVYouth to flow through 100 percent of all donations. MVYouth seeks to increase major charitable giving on Martha's Vineyard, by engaging the next generation of philanthropists. Together we will multiply the impact of charitable giving, and put the money to work NOW for Martha's Vineyard's children, teens and young adults.
MVYouth is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
