The Space to THRIVE campaign is the second phase of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services’ multi-year master plan to transform its campus for the future, replacing aged facilities and strengthening programs by consolidating major services into a new two-story main building that will serve as the clinical and administrative hub for the entire organization. MVCS calls the campaign, “A rare, generational opportunity to transform the island’s only full‑spectrum behavioral‑health facility into a welcoming, dignified, purpose‑built space that communicates to every person - ‘You matter.’” MVCS is the island’s primary social‑service and behavioral‑health safety net, providing high‑impact support to islanders for more than 60 years. Founded in 1961 to address the Island’s lack of mental health services, MVCS has consistently responded to the most pressing community needs by providing: mental health services in partnership with schools, law enforcement, the hospital, and other local nonprofit organizations; addiction services, veterans services, domestic violence services, early education and child care services, senior services, and disability services. Of particular interest to MVYouth are the growing numbers of children, teens and young adults presenting with anxiety, depression, trauma, and developmental challenges, since the pandemic. The building will have a child‑friendly waiting and playroom and dedicated youth‑focused therapy spaces designed to support family consultation, supervised visitation, group therapy, and play therapy. MVCS will recruit and retain clinicians specializing in child and teen mental health and reduce stigma by offering a safe, modern, trauma‑informed environment.
