Chilmark Preschool offers essential support to up-Island families by providing affordable, high-quality early childhood education and care. With the generous grant from MVYouth toward our Capital Campaign to build a permanent home, we will be able to continue fulfilling this mission well into the future – with double the capacity, including serving toddlers for the first time. This year, Chilmark Preschool selected South Mountain Company as our construction firm, and we officially broke ground on June 27, 2025. As of this December, we have a fully weather-tight building complete with a roof and windows, and interior work is underway with rough installations nearing completion. The project is progressing on budget and on schedule to open for the Fall of 2026. Our new preschool building will allow us to continue serving preschool aged students and welcome toddlers for the first time, a highly underserved population on Martha’s Vineyard. MVYouth’s support for our new permanent home not only ensures that we can continue providing reliable, high-quality education and care to our youngest community members, but also helps stabilize the Island’s workforce by making it possible for parents to work and build their lives on Martha’s Vineyard. Our preschool parents include fishermen, Eversource linemen, Steamship Authority terminal agents, social workers, doctors, nurses, educators, farmers, nonprofit leaders, carpenters, writers, artists, and scientists. We are proud of who we serve and the impact we have on their families’ lives, and we are thrilled to extend our impact even further.
